KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A $15 Million Aquarium is destined for Crown Center and it's planned for opening Spring of 2012.

It'll be called "Sea Life Kansas City at Crown Center", to be built on the first floor of Hall's and onto parts of the second.

Crown Center Revelopment's Bill Lucas said this afternoon the developer will be Merlin Entertainments, the outfit that built a water park last year at the Legoland theme park in California. Lucas said Sea Life will take visitors on a 2 to 3 hour journey from waters of the Missouri, through the Mississippi River into the Caribbean Sea into the Atlantic. The aquarium is to feature more than 30 displays of marine life.

Halls men's department is to move onto the third level of Crown Center Shops. Construction is set to begin in May.

KCUR serves the Kansas City region with breaking news and award-winning podcasts.
