Creating Literature For Kids, And (Hazy) Memories Of Your First Concert

Apr 26, 2017

Children's literature creators Jon Scieszka, left, and Javaka Steptoe say presenting their work in front of readers is part storytelling, part performance art. Both will take part in LitFestKC on April 28 and 29.

Today, Jon Scieszka and Javaka Steptoe, heavy-hitters on the kid's lit scene, talk about promoting literacy and how the environment for fostering it has changed since they were little. They also reveal the creative processes behind some of their best-known works. Then, music writer Marc Myers and more than a few Up To Date listeners share memories of their very first concerts.

Jon Scieszka and Javaka Steptoe will take part in LitFestKC, going on April 28 and 29 at Kansas City Public Library's Central Library and The Rabbit hOle. Visit LitFestKC.org for a complete schedule.
