Creating A Calm Setting For Controversial Conversations

Don’t discuss religion or politics — that’s what they say about making polite conversation. But a non-profit is trying to change that way of thinking.

On Wednesday's Up to Date, we talk with representatives from the Village Square, a group that encourages civil discussion about often controversial civic issues.

Guests:

  • Allan Katz, former U.S. ambassador to Portugal
  • Liz Joyner, Village Square executive director and co-founder

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
