Counties Offer Discount Drug Card

By Kelley Weiss

Kansas City, MO – A new discount prescription drug card is available to Kansas residents in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties. KCUR's Kelley Weiss reports.

The discount prescription card will save consumers about 20 percent on commonly prescribed drugs. It's available to any residents living in Johnson and Wyandotte counties through a partnership with the National Association of Counties. Almost 60,000 retail pharmacies across the country participate in the organization. That collective buying power drives down costs of prescriptions with major drug companies.

Biagio Pagano, public information officer for the Wyandotte Public Health Department, says the card wil not cost the county any money and means savings for Kansans.

Biagio Pagano: "It is not limited to only individuals or families that are low income this card is available to all people regardless of their income, or existing health coverage or age or anything like that."

The card is free and does not require any enrollment forms or have limits on frequency of use and is available through the counties' health departments.

Funding for health care coverage on KCUR has been provided by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
