Kansas City, MO – If you're a theatre fan who finds two acts and an intermission awfully long, you're the perfect audience for a theatre event opening this weekend in Lawrence: the the Citywide Festival of Playwrights. As KCUR's Steve Walker reports, the plays are considerably shorter.

PERFORMANCES

EMU Theatre's Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival
August 18-19 and 25-26 at the Lawrence Arts Center; Fridays @ 7:00 and 10:00 p.m.; Saturdays @ 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 at the door

Chris Cook's "Waiting to Die"
The story of a young couple who find their grandmother in the hands of three scheming caregivers and unhelpful family members.
They come to realize some things may be worse than death, and set it all right.

Lawrence Community Theatre, August 19 @ 8:00 p.m. and August 20 @ 2:30 p.m.

Betty Laird's "Essential Elements of a Gothic Mystery"
A lighthearted story set in a restored but struggling Weston, Missouri
mansion-turned-B&B. A visiting Scotland Yard Detective, an Arab prince,
assorted locals and Civil War-era secrets keep thinks lively
Lawrence Community Theatre, August 26 @ 8:00 p.m. and August 27 @ 2:30 p.m.

Tickets for LCT performances are available at the door
$6.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors
