City Launches New 311 Service

Kansas City, MO – Kansas City residents can now dial 3-1-1 to find out about city services or report problems. The city began consolidating customer service phone numbers over the past couple of years as part of city hall reorganization plan. Now, residents will be able to call 311 to report a neighbor's weeds or find out when's the next bulky trash pick up day. Councilman Chuck Eddy says the new system will provide needed data to help the city council plan.

Chuck Eddy: "But our system here in Kansas City will be providing not only the ability for our citizens to contact our services much quicker and much more efficiently, but it will also give us tracking information so that our city manager and our city council can see how well our services are being provided."

City officials did not have an estimate of the cost of the new service. But the center will have more staff and expanded service hours. 311 service will also be available through most wireless providers.
