Chiefs Open Season With Different Look

To open the NFL season against Tennessee Sunday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs have high hopes.  They’re coming off a playoff season with an 11-5 regular season record. But the look of this year’s team is different.

Take the Chiefs offensive line for instance. Of the five starters, only center Rodney Hudson starts at the same position as he did in the season opener a year ago.  While two starters are now playing elsewhere, two others — Eric Fisher and Jeff Allen — are playing different positions. Will Shields, one of the Chiefs all-time greats on the offensive line said it’s important for the line to be cohesive.

“Every once in awhile, you’ll get lucky,” said Shields.  “You’ll pull out five or six good guys that works together and understands everybody’s weaknesses and strengths. They just sort of gel.”

The line will be protecting quarterback Alex Smith who signed a four-year contract extension last week worth $68 million.

The Chiefs were 1-3 during the exhibition season. Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans kicks off at noon.
