Kansas City, MO – Eating disorders are a serious psychiatric illness that affects girls across cultural lines. The director of eating disorders, education and prevention at McLean Hospital, an affiliate of the Harvard Medical Center, says girls are developing eating disorders and negative self image at younger ages than ever before. Catherine Steiner-Adair says these disorders are culturally driven but impact each community differently. She recently visited Kansas City to train teachers and religious leaders on how to prevent eating disorders and spoke to KCUR's Kelley Weiss.
