Kansas City, KS – In a time when job creation is paramount for much of the metro region, the Mayor of Kansas City Kansas and Wyandotte County speaks of 300 million dollars begun in commercial construction last year. Mayor Joseph Reardon was delivering his state of the Unified Government summation today.
Reardon says the size of commercial construction in 2010 nearly doubled the gains of any year in almost the last decade. He compares the growth to robust years such as 2005 when commercial construction hit $118 million. The mayor cites as an example, the new soccer stadium in Village West--"this $150 million project is scheduled for completion at beginning of this summer."
The Mayor points to an $80 million office building at KU Medical Center, now under construction, a new meat processing plant, good for 250 jobs, and the Speedway casino underway. And He heralds a 2.2 percent decline in overall crime last year.
