America's Shifting Foreign Policy

Over the past few years, the United States has started to withdraw its aid and influence from regions like the Middle East, and that is creating space for other countries to assume more powerful positions.

On Tuesday's Up to Date, we’ll talk with Vali Nasr, author of The Dispensable Nation, about how recent foreign policy decisions led us to this point and what it could mean for American power in these areas in the future.

HEAR MORE: Vali Nasr speaks at 7 p.m., April 30 at Unity Temple on The Plaza. For ticket information, click here.

Vali Nasr is the dean of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and a contributor at Bloomberg View. He served as senior advisor to U.S. special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke between 2009 and 2011. Nasr is a senior fellow in foreign policy at the Brookings Institution.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
