- Jazz keyboardist Everette DeVan talks about how the rediscovery of an album he recorded more than 30 years ago with the funky soul-jazz band ssSlick by a German record label has led to an unexpected development in his long career. 

- Anthony Tao, the freelance sports journalist and blogger from Kansas City,  is now into the fifth month of his Beijing sojourn – he reflects on China after the Olympics.

- The acting U.S. Surgeon General Steven Galson visits a local elementary school to talk about childhood obesity.

- Artist William Pope L. talks about an installation at the Municipal Auditorium called Trinket, which seeks to encourage viewers to experience symbols of American democracy in a new way.  

- Clay, a one-man hip-hop musical, opens the Kansas City Repertory Theatre's new season.

- Major Tony Ell, commander of the Kansas City Police Department Violent Crime Division, talks about the status of violent crime in Kansas City this year.  Also, learn about Aim4Peace, a new program that takes a public health approach to crime.  Program coordinator Tracie McLendon-Cole and some of the new outreach workers joined us in the studio to tell us about their work.

- Debra Perez of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation talks about new research on Latino access to health care.

- Fifty newly-minted teachers from Teach for America prepare for their first week of classes in the Kansas City Missouri School District.  This is the first year the program has placed teachers in Kansas City.  We chat with Joe Fox, a new fourth grade teacher at Troost Elementary School, about how he's preparing for his first week.
