Kansas Pride: Loving A Big State With A Big Reputation

Kansans sometimes get picked on. They've heard every joke in the book about Toto and Dorothy, and they're not amused.

On Central Standard, we met with two people whose love for the state is both unconventional and all-consuming. They discuss the many rewards that await those willing to explore a state so often dismissed as empty and flat, suggesting ideas for enjoyable daytrips (see below).  They also offer suggestions for how Kansas can overcome some of its less flattering stereotypes.

It's Going To Be An Epic Weekend In St. Louis For Kansas Basketball Fans

Wichita State, Kansas and Kansas State will all play in the first round of the men's NCAA basketball tournament this weekend in St. Louis.

 Since Wichita State’s first appearance in the NCAA men’s basketball Tournament 50 years ago, this is the first time that the Shockers, Kansas and Kansas State are at the same site — all three teams will be in action Friday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. And fans who planned early are getting the most bang for their buck.

Since KU contended for a No. 1 seed before settling for a No. 2 seed, Jayhawks fans like Phillip Brown of Elm, Mo., gambled on St. Louis as KU’s destination. It paid off.

Kansas Moves Agriculture Department To Manhattan

The Kansas Secretary of Agriculture says he’s moving most of state Agriculture Department to Manhattan. Secretary Dale Rodman says the agriculture in Kansas will benefit from being part of what he’s calling “the synergies” between Kansas State University and a burgeoning animal and plant science industry.

The move will allow the Kansas department to work more closely and avoid redundancies with bioscience research and commerce already going on in Manhattan.

Kansas State Football Coach Signs New Five-Year Contract

Bill Snyder is the oldest active coach in major college football and shows no signs of retiring. Snyder will be 78 if he fulfills the 5-year extension he signed to coach the Kansas State Wildcats.
