Iconic funk and soul singer Marva Whitney was laid to rest Saturday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. She died two weeks ago at the age of 68, just six years after the passing of James Brown, who catapulted her to national stardom. In recent years, Whitney had made a comeback, performing all over Europe and Japan, just not here in Kansas City.
