Candidates Seek Kansas City, Kansas Top Post
When Joe Reardon said he was stepping down as mayor of Kansas City, Kan. and CEO of Wyandotte County, it surprised many.
On Monday's Up to Date, we'll talk with the five candidates seeking to fill his shoes about their plans for the area. Steve Kraske welcomes Ann Murguia, Cordell Meeks, Janice Witt, Nathan Barnes, and Mark Holland to discuss their backgrounds, explain the issues affecting Kansas City, Kansas and Wyandotte County, and argue why their platform is best for the area's residents. They'll compete for votes in the Feb. 26 primary election.
Ann Murguia is the executive director of the Argentine Neighborhood Development Association serves as commissioner for District 3 in the Unified Government of Wyandotte County. She has a bachelor's degree from Ottawa University and an MBA from Baker University.
Cordell Meeks III is chairman of the Unified Government Human Relations Commission.
Janice Witt has a bachelor’s degree in human resources Sterling College and a master’s degree in service and hospitality the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Mark Holland has served as Commissioner At-Large, District 1 in the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, since 2007. He has a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University, a masters of divinity from Iliff School of Theology and a doctorate of ministry from Saint Paul School of Theology. He is the chairman of the Mayor’s Task Force for Healthy Infrastructure and the Standing Committees for Finance and Community Development/Block Grants. He served as Mayor Pro-Tem May 2009 to May 2011.
Nathan Barnes has served on the Board of Commissioners, District 1 in the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, since 1997. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff.
